Anything by Price Pritchett is great reading and insight.

This book is like drinking lemon juice early in the morning. It tells it like it is, and if any of us want to survive in today's business climate we have to dig deep and accept what is said here. As noted by other reviewers, it might not be the warmest and fuzziest of all books, however it is written very professionally and the art work is fantastic. So good in fact they could be framed. Organizations are almost always difficult to work in, and this book gives matter of fact advice, as if you were talking to a senior manager friend, sage, wise elder, or business savvy older relative. It is in the same tone your parents or grandparents might speak to you. All that said, the purpose of it is a "survival guide" and those who want to survive will get it. Those who want to complain, and resist change won't get it, and may be in the unemployment line. This is not to say I agree with how organizations conduct themselves, however if you want to survive organizational change, keep your job, prosper in an ever changing environment, this is a GREAT short pamphlet. It is about 40 pages long, 6 X 9 inches, with 14 color poster type pages such as the photo I have attached.

These books were given to my group as a Christmas present from our supervisor. After wasting a portion of my life reading this stupid thing, the only thing I learned is that Management will never own up to the mistake of making a bad decisions and they do not take their hard working employees into consideration when making these decisions. All this book is saying is that upper management can do whatever they want and everybody else just has to suck it up and deal with it. The only thing management cares about it money and they will make whatever decision they can that will cause them to get more money even if it means making their employee's lives a living hell. The guy who wrote this book just gave upper management a kind way of saying "screw you" to the lower paid employees. I had to burned the book after I read it

Price Pritchett and Ron Pound have written a "Survival Guide to The Stress of Organizational Change" but this is no 'Survival Guide'. This is an open letter, from senior management at explaining why you, the reader, are weak and mistake riddled so-suck-it-up-and-get-back-to-work. The table of contents consists of 15 chapters that all begin with "Big Mistake". This underlying assumption that Price and Ron (and of course senior management at know what I think (of course I am incapable of empathy) and what motivates me, is exactly why some companies undergo organizational change every year or two. This book is a non-religous guide to both thought and behavior, much like "On the Correct Handling of the Contradictions Among the People". If you receive a copy of this book from senior management at it is likely time to start looking for a new job.I understand that Mao Zedong wanted to be cremated in a funeral pyre of 100,000 copies of this book, but Price and Ron insisted that they use that lame crystal coffin instead.

The tone and messages of the book are such that they will serve to demotivate, rather than inspire, employees. For example:Message #1: You (the reader) are not senior management. Throughout the book, senior management is described as "the people at the top" and "they." The book immediately sets up a distinction between these two groups - top management, which is moving the company along in response to outside changes, and employees, who are resisting change at every turn.Message #2: Change is scary, unrelenting, and you (the average person) are naturally not going to like it. And if you weren't scared about change going into the book, you will be after you read it. One of the opening paragraphs reads: "And if today's stress and tension aren't enough to create problems, all a person has to do is consider what the future holds. One close look at what's in store should be enough to worry anyone."Message #3: You (the reader) are an idiot, and you will persistently resist change unless you wise up to the tips in this book. The book outlines 15 mistakes people usually make in dealing with change. It doesn't offer 15 good ideas for preventing stress due to change, but instead focuses on 15 things you'll probably do wrong unless, of course, you read this book.On the whole, this book is too simplistic and supplies only minimal rationale for why an employee should change. If you want to get employees to be more open to change, to put their heart into their job, to be more supportive of the company's overall direction, then give them a book that will inspire them. Give them tips for how to be a happier person, both on the job and at home. Talk to them in a positive tone and not a negative one, as this book does. There are many books out there that can accomplish these goals, just not this one.

This 36-page booklet, geared towards lower or middle management, reads like propaganda. It is, however, hard reality, like it or not. Its obvious stuff that we all need to be reminded of now and again. I suggest that if your organization is going through major change and you're having a hard time dealing with the situation, read this with an open mind. I wish I read it before they laid me off.

I've been on both sides of reorganizations, and this book does HELP. It was especially very good advice when I was younger and just beginning to experience the change that all organizations must go through. I held on to my copy and still look at it now and then to remind myself that I shouldn't fight change, but take it as it comes and make the most of it.

Fantastic book. Shipped quick.This was recommended for an anatomy course I had taken. The book has great insight into the anatomy under the skin in ways that the many other books I have do not. I would highly recommend this book. The illustrations aren't the most elegant, however they get the point across.

I could really understand how the joints/muscles work with the way this author drew the pictures. It put the mechanics of a horse into a form I could easily grasp.

Tiny Pretty Things was my favorite guilty pleasure in 2015, so I was very eager to pick up this sequel and find out what was in store for the amazing characters that were introduced in the first novel. I loved the fact that this is truly a sequel! It's not a companion, it's a literal "this is what happens next" story that I greatly appreciated. The diverse cast of characters are all back, still trying to pursue their dancing dreams as they face their senior year and the possibility of earning a coveted apprenticeship. They must decide if college is in their future or dance, and all the same intrigue, bad behavior and intense emotions are back in full force. The authors manage to change things up, giving their bad guys a new dimension that make us see them in a new light, and giving our "good guys" an unexpected dark side.It's easy to forgive the authors for coming up with more than a few contrived situations that strain credibility when they continue to offer up complex characters that capture your heart and imagination. The dialogue is authentic, and the style is very readable. I would recommend that readers start with book 1 in this series, in order to fully appreciate all the story lines. This series remains my favorite guilty pleasure and is a recommend for anyone with an interest in ballet.

I think I mentioned last week that as soon as I finished Tiny Pretty Things, I turned around and bought the sequel.I didn't regret it.The book starts a few months after the first one finished, with the girls heading into their final year at the conservatory. Well, all the girls except Bette who has been suspended for her role in last year's tragedies. More is at stake this time, with only two spots in the Company and every dancer hungry to take one of them.The cutthroat, competitive world of the ballet school was set up well in the first book, but in this one, everything is taken up a notch. Even sweet, lovable Gigi gets in on the action, not wanting to be a victim anymore. And she's learned from the best.Interestingly, my least favorite character from the first book, June, the bulimic, Korean dancer who had no friends, became my favorite character in this one. She is the only one who doesn't get in on the endless and increasingly dangerous pranks. Instead, she starts to recognize she has a problem and works on it, albeit under pressure from others.With their future careers at stake, the other girls are ruthless in their competitiveness, stopping at nothing to keep one step ahead of the next dancer, to be seen, to shine. While I know ballet is super competitive, I hope dancers aren't as vicious in real life as these girls are. I suspect though, what we're seeing here is the tip of an iceberg and the reality is even more horrific.While I didn't love this one quite as much as the first book, there is still a lot to enjoy here. It's just harder to find a character to side with because they're all behaving so badly. But in a way, don't we all secretly wish we could? If there were no consequences?

I was a big fan of TINY PRETTY THINGS and gobbled that book up in a single day. My expectations for SHINY BROKEN PIECES were pretty high--and I wasn't disappointed. The characters pick up at the start of the next year of ballet school (their Level 8/senior year), and all the girls have big choices to make. Low self-esteem, perfectionism, elitisim, body image and eating disorders plague the ballerinas, and to make things more intense, the bullying from the year before become more extreme yet under-the-radar to avoid causing further scandal for the conservatory. Each of the characters show their growth and development as they start to figure out who they really are.

Grade: BSenior year is make or break at ABC. Gigi is back at after being pushed into traffic and almost dying. June is fresh off treatment for her eating disorder. Bette isn't back, suspended for attacking Gigi, desperate to prove her innocence. The dancers are as twisted and backstabby as ever. Even Gigi is determined to give all she received last year.I enjoyed SHINY BROKEN PIECES, the sequel to TINY PRETTY THINGS even more than the first book. Since we already knew the characters and their backstories, the writers started directly in where TPT finished. I found June and Bette more sympathetic, and Gigi less. Though I understood Gigi's desire to get back at her frenemies, her tactics were dangerous and frightening.I felt a little sorry to come to the end of the stories of June, Bette and Gigi. Their endings were satisfactory. I can't say much without spoiling.SHINY BROKEN PIECES is a fun, quick read and will appear to those interested in ballet, boarding school, frenemies as well as other readers.

The conclusion to the epic Tiny Pretty Things. The book has ballet, drama, diverse characters, and a satisfying resolution to the dramatic ending of TPT. The multi-POV novel gives a look into the struggles and ambitions of the world, competition, and culture of elite ballet, and I love seeing it through the lenses of Gigi, who is black, June, who is Asian, and Bette, who is white. An addicting read--you will tear through this!

*SPOILER ALERT*Seriously the best way to end it ever. I was so mad. I was so very, very mad. And then I wasn't. I was thanking god for the ending. OH MY GOD PLEASE LET THERE BE MORE. And also cassie sucks.

Things I love to read about: toxic female friendships, eating disorders, bullying, ballet. Things this book contains: ALL OF THOSE THINGS

Soo much better than the first one and I gave the first one 5 stars!!! The only complaint I have is the end. Ugh, I really hope there's going to be a third book!!

If you've seen Mark Crilley's YouTube videos, you know what a talented instructor he is. In this book, he's managed to do what few drawing books accomplish: teach key drawing skills in an engaging, non-stuffy way. The drawings he's made for this book are gorgeous, and by studying the steps of their progression alongside Crilley's instructions, I learned a ton. The lessons range from very simple to quite complex, so there's a lot of growing to do here.

I purchased this book on Kindle to go with the other two books I have from him.This one is very poor in the Quality department. I think this may be the result of trying to put a written book into the Kindle format.There are incomplete sentences in every project in the beginning and you must use the goto section to get the projects downloaded individually for each project.I am keeping the book but I sure wish I knew what the rest of some of the sentences said. I think the projects will stay now that I have downloaded each one individually.Sorry this has happened as the two Manga books are wonderful.

Amazing book on drawing . If you are going to get one book on drawing this is the one to get . I have gotten many books on drawing and I must say none have been as helpful as this one.

This is a very good book. Breaking drawing down to just two pencils and paper allows anyone, regardless of budget, to learn to draw what they see and draw it well. This is a great addition to Mark Crilley's book "The Realism Challenge", and while this book just came out, it is a better starting place then the Realism Challenge which uses more techniques and media such as watercolors and gouache. I have followed Mr. Crilley on YouTube for several years and he has the heart of a teacher and awesome talent.

First, allow me the explanation of the rating: One star is automatic because I like the author; Second star because I like the material; the remaining three to rate the presentation and explanation of the material.The material gets one star from me due to difficulties navigating the book. In several instances (over a dozen), the pages right after the introduction to what was being drawn would not advance. I had to manually put in a Go To location to get to the first step of many drawing instructions. This was very frustrating and more irritating as I progressed through the book. Even worse, some of the introductions or explanations were incomplete. Sentences would just stop with nothing to help it make sense.I even downloaded the book to a couple of different devices (a Samsung tablet and my laptop) and the problem persisted. Even using the table of contents to get to each section did nothing to present all of the pages. As weird as it sounds, scrolling backwards through the pages didn't help.Unfortunately, I will be requesting a refund and I will try another book of this type at a later date.

Mark Crilley is an excellent motivator when it comes to drawing.

What a great book!!! It gives you information on how to draw realistic objects with two pencils of different softness. You can check You Tube for other videos and you'll see how easy the author is to follow.

I have to admit that Dina Wakely is a genius and an amazing creator but her styles aren't the same that I use but her books just seep inspiration. That is why I love art journaling so much. It is whatever makes you happy. What brings your bliss? Bright colors and loads of techniques? Pastels with sewn in little bits and bobs or maybe you like to stamp images and color them in with panpastels. GREAT, DO IT. Do them all! I always tell my friends who are new to art journaling to try everything you can at least once. You never know what might be the one thing that really brings you joy.Ok, that was a little rant, sorry. But this book is just lovely. I took some images to give you an idea of what you're in for. But there are 128 nice thick pages for you to read or skim to your hearts desire which is nice for an art book with techniques. And there are loads and loads of images to help you get from one stage to another. In one technique where she paints some lovely little birds she has 6 pages and there are 20 images. Other techniques might be a page or 2. But they are all inspirational and with so many new items being released every time I turn around it is fun to find new ways to use things. You don't have to be rich to art journal. Dina even shows you how to use butcher paper in your journal. She also uses a sewing machine in a couple techniques. You can't go wrong with this book, even if her style isn't your style.

I'm still enjoying the DETAILED instruction from Dina Wakely. Wow full of color composition ideas tricks, and artwork to inspire me. I got it bcs I need more tips on color, which colors match with what etc. Color combo-very hard for me to learn. In it she explains all tools, materials so I'm not confused any longer about many newbie ? I had on mixed media art I have in mind, to make. Her technique is what I love, easy flow, messy, wish I had gotten this before beginning my newest artistic endeavor lol. 128 pages of perfection if there is such a thing in art(nope).

Dina Wakley has designed the an art journaling book that's a good balance of the elements of design, composition and color theory. She explains it all with well written text that's easily understood for the beginning journal artist and a wonderful review for those who have been around the pages. Then she tells you how to break the rules.This is all blended with the how to's. Her technique pages are not only well described but beautifully illustrated. In seeing her process, the reader can begin to get an idea of how that can translate into a personal style.I have taken some of Ms. Wakley's classes. For me this book is a perfect companion and resource to all that I have learned.

I pre-ordered this book several months ago - a rare choice for me as I tend to wait and see before purchasing. However I am a true fan of Dina's blog and felt this was a safe bet to pre-order. I was not wrong!This is a superb book. The artwork alone is worth the cover price - I know I will look through this book again and again for inspiration and technique tips. Dina has a fantastic way of explaining techniques and she uses both new and old products, including easy to get items from the local hardware and craft stores. The colours are vivid and engaging - it's actually difficult to focus on reading Dina's text as the journal pages really draw your eye! Dina gives a great overview of materials she uses and there are several excellent techniques included - step by step ideas that I have not seen widely used before. It is clear a lot of hard work has gone into this book and the results are quite spectacular.Congratulations Dina on a wonderful book. In this age of saturation in the art journal book market, you have written one which stands out amongst some very good quality books. I would highly recommend it to both new and advanced art journalists. I hope this isn't the last we see of you in the book market.

Took a class with Dina Wakely. Bought her other book, got this one on Kindle and I am pretty sure I can do ANYTHING when it comes to producing art now, Lol. Seriously- you will have so much fun and realize you don't have to spend a lot of money to be creative. Honestly, its like anything else, its not what, but how you think about your art.

Overall, I liked this book and found it to be helpful, especially the portions explaining composition.Even though I already had some knowledge of color theory, she does go into a little more detail than most of the free internet information you can find...so if color is something you struggle with the lessons in here are concise and easy to understand.For me, though, the portion on composition was more useful. I've learned to draw with relative success, but always seemed to have trouble with collage work (basically it looked like I barfed ephemera onto the page every time I attempted collage...). I've only read through the book, not taking time to actually do the 'lessons' yet, and even with the quick, one-time read through, I've seen a huge improvement in my collage work.The one small complaint I have is that there seem to be a lot of "example" pictures for each idea. I know that some people are visual learners, especially ones who are already have an artistic leaning, but I kind of wish that one or two examples were given with each idea and then more information could have been covered in the book. Then again, not going into further information leaves room for more books in the future, so I see that side of it too.My one little complaint shouldn't stop you from buying the book though. Even if your style of art is very different from the author's, the principals are universal and she does a good job explaining them. I know she has another book out soon (or it could already be out, I'm not sure) and, based on this book, I think I will probably end up with her new one as well.

I am thankful this book was written. As a Cherokee indian I am proud to read the writings of other Indians from other tribes sharing their experiences of long ago with the treacherous white soldiers and government who violated treaty after treaty, taking land and decimating the Buffalo herds with arrogant impunity. I have always known most of the deaths among the 7th Calvary were self-inflicted, including Custer. There was no heroic last stand. There was chaos and panic, with most of the soldiers shooting themselves in the head. The tribes were there rightfully per the current treaty to hunt. The white soldiers arrogantly attacked and got what they deserved. I'm retired military but my first loyalty is to my native American ancestors.

The true story of the Custer battle told by a Cheyenne who participated. And a vivid account of Plains Indian life. According to this, much in our history books is not accurate. If you enjoy American History, this is a must read.

While I found the book tremendously informative (I have some Sioux heritage), I also found myself getting lost in the details somewhat. Maybe too many names, names which Native custom seemed to change at times, or simply because this came across as a sometimes rambling rendering of his tale, with many changes in narrative focus? Hence only four stars. In any case, at times fascinating, then tedious, it detailed the live of Wooden Leg's tribe and its relationship to the different Native tribes that came together, seemingly accidental, in the right place, or wrong place, depending on one's viewpoint, to meet Custer at the Little Big Horn. Wooden Leg doesn't glorify the battle, in fact its story takes up only a small fraction of the book, nor the Native way of life other than the freedom to live their lives without interference as they clung to the old ways.One of the things that may turn some away from this book, however, is his almost casual acceptance of the brutality of life. Death and brutal beatings weren't presented as anything more than the norm. Then, in the blink of an eye, he's talking about helping an enemy who comes to them with, so to speak, a good heart and needs help. He details his own killing of a soldier as he attempted retreat across the river, most likely one who was part of the Reno division at the Little Big Horn in an almost emotionless fashion, just as another fact of life in the battle between Natives and the white man. Since Wooden Leg seems to have gone on to work for the soldiers later for many years, it's interesting to read his take on continued resistance after he'd surrendered and gone to the reservation. This, and the many, many details of Native life revealed make the book well worth a read for anyone with any interest in not just Custer but Native Americans and our frontier expansion, including his view of Wounded Knee near the books end.

The memories of an old man of the Cheyenne tribe. Recorded by the reservation Doctor, who was fluent in the plains sign language, it has the ring of truth. From the exposition of tribal life to the details of the Custer fight, it reads like what it is: the detailed memories of an intelligent survivor of exciting times. Details of the Custer fight track S. L. A. Marshal closer than Ambrose, but that is a positive. The outline and details of tribal governance are believable and enlightening. Truly a valuable book and one of referential value.

I almost stopped reading this book in the beginning, thinking it was influenced by the translator. However, I kept going and eventually began to understand the unique perspective that Wooden Leg had as an uncelebrated figure....just a normal guy telling about everyday things. The time period he talks about is during the end of the free Cheyenne and Sioux era, the Battle of Little Bighorn and the eventual surrender of the Cheyenne tribes. I never realized before how the Cheyenne turned against the Sioux as scouts. That part was very sad.

Finally a story of the famous battle of the Little Big Horn from the Indians that fought there. A must read for any history buff. Now I can say I feel I know the true reason for this battle.Like many Americans we are taught Custer was a hero and the Indians were the bad guys. I never believed that. There had to be another side to the story. Well this is it. I also feel this book should be read at least once by any high school student majoring in American history.We talk about racism in American. Here is a good example of how actual history and pick-n-choose history fail both Native Americans and White Americans. Custer is not the hero we`re taught and the Native Americans were trying to keep their way of life and protect their families. Any American would do the same.

I so enjoyed this life of Wooden Leg, a Northern Cheyenne who made friends with Thomas B. Marquis, the doctor on the reservation where Wooden Leg & his family eventually lived. The ordinary life of the Cheyenne & other tribes is so interesting, a life geared to providing for the tribe in harmony with nature, killing animals for food & clothing, but not over- killing, not wasting precious resources. Enmity between different tribes of Indians existed, killing your enemy was a part of life. Wooden Leg recounts the many atrocities committed by the US army, he does so simply without exaggeration. The buildup to the Battle of the Little Bighorn is told so that I understood properly the way the main battle & side engagements came about. Anyone interested in the longlost way of life of the Plains Indians, in their philosophy & the famous battle will thoroughly enjoy this book, Dr. Marquis listened & sympathetically conveyed Wooden Keg's story & character.
