I originally purchased this as a Christmas gift for my mom, but decided to keep for myself and purchase a second copy for my mom. Excited to try a few of these recipes THIS Christmas.God Jul :)

Jul by Patrice M. Johnson is a truly lovely holiday cookbook which features Swedish recipes although some of the recipes cross through other Scandinavian countries. I found plenty of similar recipes often prepared by Norwegian cooks for example. (My husband comes from a Norwegian background so I’ve learned to cook Scandinavian recipes). I love my copy of Scandinavian Home Cooking which is a cookbook filled with simple Scandinavian-style recipes. I may have a copy of Scandinavian Recipes tucked away in my bookshelf but I will have to look for it.Back to Jul: Jul features many holiday recipes and stories about how the food was prepared. Dr. Sokyo Ono's "Shinto: The Kami Way" is the best overview of Shinto I have ever read, and I've read a LOT of books on the religions of Japan over the past thirty years! William Woodard's translation is very readable. Perhaps most helpful is Ono Sensei's comparison-contrast between Japanese understanding of seven-fold nature of Kami and Western understandings of God. I also found especially interesting the focus on purification. I have recommended and given copies of this book to many people through the years. The Kindle version I recently purchased is helpful because it won't disappear from my office library!

It’s a good book, but it mainly focuses on the political and cultural aspect of Shinto.The translation is not great, although everything can be understood, one can see that’s is quite a literal translation.And what I thought was missing is the mystical aspect of shinto, more spiritual an belief part of the religion.

Good introduction to the concepts, or rather the seeming unclarity (?"ambiguity") that surrounds the concepts of Shinto (practitioners would dispute this interpretation of unclarity....such is the nature of 'faith') I came away thinking Kami means many different things to many different Japanese, and at multiple levels of of private and public life. Apparently there isn't a monolithic interpretation, or even notional/national orthodoxy that can apply to all. My initial and misconstrued past conception was that it was animism, but the system is unique to Japanese thinking.Apparently, there is no ancient codex (bible) to base on, its evolutionary past is complicated, But through reading this , I think I discern at play are the the underlying universal human motivations and needs.....that of community (of belief), native tribal identity, belief in a transcendent other world and need to subordinate oneself/appease/respect/worship/acknowledge dependence on ..... something/someone more spiritual in nature. In that sense it is no different to other religions. The manifestations as enunciated in the book, however, make an interesting read.

As someone who is interested in all things Japanese, I was really excited to read Dr. Sokyo Ono's Shinto: The Kami Way. This book is held as the standard introduction to Shinto for Western readers, and for the most part, I wasn't disappointed. The author, a recognized expert on the subject, presents Shinto to the reader in plain, simple language. The bare essentials of Shinto are explored, including the architecture and layout of Shinto shrines and the rituals and festivals that are celebrated within. Unfortunately, I was seeking a more philosophical discussion of Shinto, and the author really only includes a short chapter in the back of the book that delves into the actual beliefs of Shinto. Still, the influence of Shinto on the daily life of the Japanese is addressed throughout the book and gives Western readers a glimpse into the way the Japanese have evolved along with their indigenous beliefs. I would recommend this book to all readers interested in world religions and philosophies. This is definitely a must-read for anyone who hopes to understand the Japanese people even a little bit.

Great book. It's very informative as to the Shinto religion of Japan. I learned a lot from reading it and would recommend it to others looking to expand their knowledge of this fascinating religion. The author touches on various aspects of Shinto, but seems to prefer talking about shrines and how they operate.

I am enjoying this book and learning a lot. Well written and very good with explanation if one is interested in Shintoism.

This is not to say I agree with how organizations conduct themselves, however if you want to survive organizational change, keep your job, prosper in an ever changing environment, this is a GREAT short pamphlet. It is about 40 pages long, 6 X 9 inches, with 14 color poster type pages such as the photo I have attached.

These books were given to my group as a Christmas present from our supervisor. After wasting a portion of my life reading this stupid thing, the only thing I learned is that Management will never own up to the mistake of making a bad decisions and they do not take their hard working employees into consideration when making these decisions. All this book is saying is that upper management can do whatever they want and everybody else just has to suck it up and deal with it. The only thing management cares about it money and they will make whatever decision they can that will cause them to get more money even if it means making their employee's lives a living hell. The guy who wrote this book just gave upper management a kind way of saying "screw you" to the lower paid employees. I had to burned the book after I read it

Price Pritchett and Ron Pound have written a "Survival Guide to The Stress of Organizational Change" but this is no 'Survival Guide'. This is an open letter, from senior management at explaining why you, the reader, are weak and mistake riddled so-suck-it-up-and-get-back-to-work. The table of contents consists of 15 chapters that all begin with "Big Mistake". This underlying assumption that Price and Ron (and of course senior management at know what I think (of course I am incapable of empathy) and what motivates me, is exactly why some companies undergo organizational change every year or two. This book is a non-religous guide to both thought and behavior, much like "On the Correct Handling of the Contradictions Among the People". If you receive a copy of this book from senior management at it is likely time to start looking for a new job.I understand that Mao Zedong wanted to be cremated in a funeral pyre of 100,000 copies of this book, but Price and Ron insisted that they use that lame crystal coffin instead.

The tone and messages of the book are such that they will serve to demotivate, rather than inspire, employees. For example:Message #1: You (the reader) are not senior management. Throughout the book, senior management is described as "the people at the top" and "they." The book immediately sets up a distinction between these two groups - top management, which is moving the company along in response to outside changes, and employees, who are resisting change at every turn.Message #2: Change is scary, unrelenting, and you (the average person) are naturally not going to like it. And if you weren't scared about change going into the book, you will be after you read it. One of the opening paragraphs reads: "And if today's stress and tension aren't enough to create problems, all a person has to do is consider what the future holds. One close look at what's in store should be enough to worry anyone."Message #3: You (the reader) are an idiot, and you will persistently resist change unless you wise up to the tips in this book. The book outlines 15 mistakes people usually make in dealing with change. It doesn't offer 15 good ideas for preventing stress due to change, but instead focuses on 15 things you'll probably do wrong unless, of course, you read this book.On the whole, this book is too simplistic and supplies only minimal rationale for why an employee should change. If you want to get employees to be more open to change, to put their heart into their job, to be more supportive of the company's overall direction, then give them a book that will inspire them. Give them tips for how to be a happier person, both on the job and at home. Talk to them in a positive tone and not a negative one, as this book does. There are many books out there that can accomplish these goals, just not this one.

This 36-page booklet, geared towards lower or middle management, reads like propaganda. It is, however, hard reality, like it or not. Its obvious stuff that we all need to be reminded of now and again. I suggest that if your organization is going through major change and you're having a hard time dealing with the situation, read this with an open mind. I wish I read it before they laid me off.

I've been on both sides of reorganizations, and this book does HELP. It was especially very good advice when I was younger and just beginning to experience the change that all organizations must go through. I held on to my copy and still look at it now and then to remind myself that I shouldn't fight change, but take it as it comes and make the most of it.

Fantastic book. Shipped quick.This was recommended for an anatomy course I had taken. The book has great insight into the anatomy under the skin in ways that the many other books I have do not. I would highly recommend this book. The illustrations aren't the most elegant, however they get the point across.

very well put together anatomy book - been waiting for this for a wee while, so good to have it at last.

meticulous line drawings from multiple perspectives, labelled with anatomical terms.An excellent learning tool for anyone who loves or works with horses.

I could really understand how the joints/muscles work with the way this author drew the pictures. It put the mechanics of a horse into a form I could easily grasp.

Great illustrations and came in very good shape!
