About the Author
Todd Conklin is a Senior Advisor at Los Alamos National Laboratory, one of the world's foremost research and development laboratories, in the human performance and safety integration program. Dr. Conklin has been working on the human performance program at Los Alamos National Laboratory for the last dozen years of his 25-year career. It is in the fortunate position where he enjoys the best of both the academic world and the world of safety in practice. Conklin holds a Ph.D. in organizational behaviour and communication from the University of New Mexico. He speaks all over the world to executives, groups and work teams who are interested in better understanding the relationships between the workers in the field and the organization's systems, processes and programs. He has brought these systems to major corporations around the world. Conklin practices these ideas not only in his own workplace, but also in event investigations at other workplaces around the world. Conklin defines safety at his workplace like this: "Safety is the ability for workers to be able to do work in a varying and unpredictable world." Conklin lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and thinks that human performance is the most meaningful work he has ever had the opportunity to live and teach.

Todd Conklin is a great speaker and a great author. I have personally read all of his books now. He came to speak to my company earlier this year about Pre-Accident Investigations and there was a lot points (also stated in the book) that hit the nail on the head. I was stuck in the elevator with him for about a hour before our meeting and we spoke a good bit on his studies, overall very interesting and great on so many levels.
Todd Conklin did a great job at taking what can be a very complicated topic and making it easily understandable, even for those with little to no background in organizational safety. The book is a top-notch publication with a plethora of quotable quotes, or Toddisms as I came to think of them. I have had the pleasure of being a student of Dr. Conklin's on several occasions and was pleased to see that his sharp wit and seemingly endless humor was integrated, in a very classy way, into the learnings contained within his newest book. I have the hardcopy, but ended up buying the Kindle version also for ease of reference when in-the-field. This is a book that I will end up reading a number of times over the years and highly recommend it to anyone that has an interest in protecting their organization against the many things that could possibly go wrong in a complicated world.
Great book that helps clarify the need to conduct systems analysis and to do good risk assessment work.

Great book by the one and only Todd Conklin. This book lays down the fundamentals of “The New View Of Safety†for people wanting/needing to change how they look at Safety.
This is a very readable book and is ideal for a short course. I am making it required reading for our QA folks.
