Gottlieb-Walker had incredible access to not just Marley and his entourage, but to the whole Reggae scene as it was exploding onto the musical stage of the 70's. This is a must for any serious fan of this genre. The only shortcoming of this book is that it fails to take a 'wider angle" photographic view of Jamaican society at the time. Reggae is rooted in political strife, and was a spiritual and social phenomenon as well as a musical style, and photos of the urban and rural landscapes would have helped to convey just what compelled Reggae artists to become a driving force, not just in Jamaican, but third world societies around the globe.

Fans of music, fans of Reggae and fans of great photography should be thrilled that Kim has made the effort of going back through her proofs and negatives from the early seventies and produced this wonderful collection. Kim's attentive lens was trained on Bob Marley and his Reggae contemporaries just as they were emerging onto the world stage. I first read the Tao Te Ching in college. Somewhere along the line I lost that copy so I decided to pick up this one (especially since it had such high reviews). This copy seemed much different than the one I read years back. And I am not just talking about the author's choice to use female pronouns as well as male pronouns in his version (incidentally - how close can one get to awareness of Tao if one allows oneself to get hung up on seeing "He" rather than "She" in the teachings?).In one portion of this "tao de ching: A New English Version" ("Version" is the key word) the author chooses to translate "When the Tao is absent in a country,/ war horses are bred on the borders" to "When a country goes counter to the Tao, Warheads are stockpiled outside the cities". This author has written his "modernized" version of the Tao Te Ching and he claims to have been open in this fact, supposedly by him using the terms "A New English Version". When one reads further one in the notes you see the author admitting he does not even know Chinese (so his interpretation of the Tao is from other translations - and how he thinks the lines should read for poetics sake, or P.C. sake, etc).At first I thought I would not write a review on this book. But when seeing the author admit to what I had suspected it made me feel like I really got ripped off. If you are looking for a translation of the Tao Te Ching do not get this author's book. The author respects the Tao but this is not the real deal. I will be purposefully losing this book and looking for a better translation.

I turned it over in my hands and it was clearly very short in length, so I decided to just read a few pages while I finished my morning coffee.One and a half hours later I had finished the book entirely, along with my coffee, and I immediately knew upon completion that I would read this book many, many more times in my life.It was a highly profound, dare I say life changing read that dramatically impacted my perspective towards my own happiness and how I interact with others. Written as a collection of very short, almost poem-like chapters, often each occupying less than a single page, this book is a masterfully crafted guide to find real happiness and fulfillment in your life. It is a tome that empowers you, humbles you, and leads you around the pitfalls that so many humans fall into throughout their lives.It is not a modern self help book with life-hacks, habit forming tips, or other such articulations, but rather a fundamental, deep, and moving look at what makes up a fulfilling life.If you are someone who has discovered mindfulness, explores meditation, or ponders philosophy, then this book is, without question, a must-read.And if you are more of a go-getter. This book is very confusing to read because of the way its been printed. There's no uniformity; Instead of having one verse per page and then a commentary section, there's several verses on one page with different types and sizes of font throughout so visually it looks very cluttered and crammed together and it's not enjoyable to read. It looks like a cheap, self-publishing project gone wrong. It's such an important text, it's disappointing that they didn't take more care to make it more readable.

This was an invaluable volume for helping me get through law school, and the bar exam. The compact size was really very important: I could (and did) carry it around with me everywhere, in the days before e-books were an option. It continues to be my first choice 20 years after graduating law school. In short, if you need a definition for citation purposes, you probably will (and should) use Black's Law Dictionary. But in order to understand the actual terms, use this volume.For anyone buying a law dictionary for those going to law school (admittedly, a dwindling number), Black's is the more spectacular gift. This Barron's dictionary, however, will be the more useful of the two

I sampled three popular law dictionaries for Kindle (1) Law Dictionary, (Mass Market) 6th Ed. (Barron's Legal Guides) , (2) Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Law, and (3) Nolo's Plain-English Law Dictionary. By far, the best I'd seen is Barron's. Among other things, instant search is enabled, and there are hotlinks to related terms. Webster's is next (it's got hotlinks, but shows only one definition per page). Nolo is the worst; it's like all they did was convert the text.Major problem with Barron's: can't search by keywords. Searches bring up index entries only.

A Law Dictionary is absolutely necessary if you study law or you work in the area of law or have anything to do with law. This book is outstanding in understanding terms which otherwise would be Greek to me. Law terms take on new meanings when you understand what is really being said. One word can have nine different concepts and this Law Dictionary will make sure you understand each of those different concepts. This is an excellent reference and a total necessity if you are involved in the study of work in the area of law.

Every law student needs a copy of this book. I keep it in my backpack and probably use it every day, if not to look up a word/phrase for the first time but to reinforce my understanding of certain concepts. (I'm a 1L at the moment.)Also, some professors at my University do not allow electronics in their classroom; I am able to look up concepts that most can't because they can not get online!

I wanted to provide a graduating undergraduate mentee with practical resources for law school as a graduation gift. I ordered this and The Bluebook. While she hasn't yet used either book, as a law professor, I am confident she will get good use out of both. While I am a fan of Black's Law Dictionary, it is not a practical resource for a law student on the go. This is a fictional resource for that use.

Is easy to navigate and comes in handy.

I am a beginner to learning constitutional law for my high school studies. This book contains all of the terms that I have so far come aross. Easy to carry around.

About the Author

BERNHARD HARTMANN was born in 1955 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and began working as a photographer for a major German newspaper at the age of 18. While earning his law degree, he taught himself the art of landscape and architectural photography. I am a power PC user making the switch to Mac. I wanted a quick reference on where to find features and keyboard shortcuts on the Mac, and this product is perfect.If you want to learn what the concepts are, this isn't for you; if you understand the concepts and just need to know where to find the features/shortcuts, this is a great little product.

As a long time DOS/Windows user, I made the transition to a Mac laptop recently.As somebody earlier said, if you're looking to learn concepts don't buy this. If you understand the concepts already and want to know where to find the features or the Mac keys to use this is great.I took one star off because the card gives links to the producers website with specific URLs (for more advanced tips) and the one I was looking for [Advanced Searching] - came up with an "oops this is a little embarrassing ... try searching with different terms.."

There are many brief commands in OSx that are easily forgotten if some time has elapsed since last being used. This guide is an easy refresher for those which we know exist, but whose details have slipped into one of those cranial crevices …And, I think most users browsing through this guide will find something new … Enjoy!

As a former Windows user and as a new user of iMac I found this not to be very helpful. One really needs a manual, like one of the "Missing Manual" series.

First, it is convenient; no pages to turn. It contains most, but not all, of items you might need to know about. While it is concise, I have found it quite useful and the price is right.

I keep it in my laptop bag and its helped me out quite a few times.

Being a decades-long PC hack, I struggled when I converted to Mac. Bought this quick-ref and keep it on my desk. I'm really surprised how many times I've grabbed it to check how to do something.If you're new to Mac, this is a cheap and convenient aid in catching on.

Concise definitions and easy to read format make this Quick Reference Guide a useful supplemental tool. However, it pays to have a more comprehensive text available just in case the abbreviated reference is just that,viz. abbreviated.
