It's ok as far as books go.I doubt that the topic has much mass appeal.As a primer it is a good place to start.However, it is dated.In terms of metrology, there are several additional advnces in quality controlpast what is covered in this book.The current standard (for NASA) is Z540.3.... this has not been fully realised wihtin NASA - and, general ignored within the industry.An earlier version - Z540.1 - is accepted and achievable.This book goes up thru ISO900 and a bit of 17025.As a basic staring point, this book covers basic concepts.The details and functional equations for uncertainty analysis are not covered.it is more anectdotal as to why quality control should exist - than a practical application manual.

Quality Control is a complicated topic, this book did not make it any easier. After all the online search gave more detailed and better presented information.The book goes into details where it seems obvious but other complicated topics are considered easy to follow and no additional information is provided.Normally a big fan of the dummies Serie but not this one.

This book provided a lot of helpful information for a novice to Quality Control. It presented the information in a way that was easy to digest, and put in terms I could understand a newcomer to the industry. The only thing that got me confused was some of the statistical process guides were riddled with nomenclature and processes that kept me feeling like there was a class I should have taken just before buying this book.Overall it's a good referance to have at your desk, and an asset to anyone just getting into QC work that needs help with terminology and general scope of practice.

As someone that has spent countless hours scouring the internet for information on this for a new position at work, this is the BEST book I have found that covers everything. I've always been a fan of the For Dummies books and this one did not disappoint. If you have no idea where to begin in this area, then this book is for you.

I really liked that book. If you are a newbie to quality and not sure if quality is the route you would like to go, this book will help you to understand the basics of quality and how to get started.I read the book chapter by chapter to get a good overview of all discussed metrics and tools. Liked the links to other topics as it helps to research it in case you are not sure about this method, tool...One improvement I would like to suggest is that each chapter contains a test section. The questions would provide the reader feedback if his/her understanding of the chapter is in sync with the author's one.

I bought this book to get a better understanding of a 5S quality system and I have learned much more than just 5S. If you are interested in any of the quality concepts, this is the book for you. Because it is part of the Dummies series, it is easy to understand and full of great information. Super book, super information, all at a super price!

When it comes to producing a PDF from on-line data (generally a database) I found only two open source alternatives: Jasper Reports and iText. I chose iText and I'm glad I did. I needed a light weight (easy to install) PDF report generator. I am running some fairly complex SQL queries to generate the data and I need to deploy this code on a number of systems. I don't want it to fail because something in the infrastructure is missing. iText gave me all of this (well, I had to do the complex SQL myself, of course).iText in Action allowed me to develop this application on a very aggressive schedule (aren't all schedules aggressive?) The book clearly lays out how to use itext, fonts, tables and almost everything else I needed. On occasion I had to search on line to figure out how to do something, but most of the time I could find what I needed in the book.In summary, I recommend iText if you need something light weight. Jasper Reports would be a good way to build an enterprise report generator. But it's problematic if you want to deploy it on lots of systems. If you choose to use iText, then this book will be worth every penny you pay for it.[Later]As of 2014 I have not seen a good alternative to iText. The iText API is the best that I've seen for creating PDFs (if you just want to read PDFs there are other alternatives). iText appears to be used is a vast array of software products that create PDFs(although in some cases the version of iText is the earlier non-GPL encumbered open source version).iText is released under a combined GPL/Commerical license. As I understand the iText software license, if you use the GPL license you must open source the code that makes use of iText. If you're going to use iText for an open source project then it is reasonable to purchase this book.If you are not open sourcing your code you need to purchase a license, which starts at $1325 (in 2014). As a software engineer I think that software engineers should be paid for their work, so I have no complaint about iText as a commercial product. However, since this license is a significant amount of money, I think that it would be reasonable to expect that this book, in either paper or electronic form, to come with the commercial license (although I suppose that it could be observed that many software engineers have to buy books on other commercial software products in order to succeed in their use).

If you're a software developer working with the ubiquitous PDF format, you have probably heard of the iText library for Java developers (or it's cousin, the iTextSharp library for C# developers).iText/iTextSharp is the de facto standard toolkit for working with PDFs--fast, relatively easy, comprehensive. If you need to stuff an Acrobat Form with data, iText is for you. If you need to parse a document into pages, iText is for you. If you need to assemble thousands of pages of construction documents in various sizes and forms, ship them halfway around the world for local printing and delivery--iText is indispensable. (Been there, done that, used iTextSharp.)But--iText is not perfect. iText is pseudo-free software, in the sense that the library can be downloaded for free--but the library is next to useless without the documentation. And the documentation is this book--iText in Action (Second Edition). To put it another way, to use iText you have to RTFM--and this is the, ahem, manual you have to read.Lots of examples, lots of explanation, lots of help with your project--I highly recommend this book.

I started with zero inside knowledge about PDF. Armed with this book, I finished my first project to generate reports in PDF format in 2 weeks; and I am heading comfortably to generate more complicated PDF files with buttons, graphs and things like that. This book is clearly written and digs in-depth. I highly recommend this book.

This book does what it says on the description. It gives a good in-depth, step by step review of the iText framework. I used this for a project I had at work to edit PDFs (using .net and iTextSharp.) This gave a good insight into how the framework works and doesn't get too burred in how a PDF actually works.

One of the clearest, easiest to follow technical books I've read in a long time.Clear, step by step examples that are thoroughly explained make this a book you can understand, even without following along on the computer.I found it very helpful.

Written by the folks who wrote the code for iText, this book provides essentially all the answers to any questions you may have about its use. Although I have not read it cover to cover, what I have read is well written. Hat tip to Bruno and team and his editor.

DOTTIE'S DELIGHT. This, like all Haynes books, has far more detail than I will ever be able to use when I work on Dottie Dodge Durango, my 1999 treasure. I wanted to know where a couple of things connected on the undercarriage, and this told me clearly in words and pictures. That alone was worth the investment. In general I love Haynes books. but note: This is not a teaching primer! If you know something about cars, this will help you with detailed instructions in word and image. If you are a beginner, it can get you off on the right foot. But if you are averse to grease under the fingernails and have never had a busted knuckle, you ought to look at a different hobby. For a carguy or a cargal, you can't beat Haynes books.For your own Dottie Dodge Durango or pickup, this will suit you well. Enjoy.

I bought this maybe 8 or 9 years ago when I decided to do more of my own vehicle maintenance and have been pleased with the purchase. This was for my 1997 Dodge Dakota (that I still own and runs great!) and In many cases, it has helped me decide if I could do the work myself or if I needed to take it in to a mechanic.In my opinion, Haynes Manuals are a great source of information and I try to buy one each vehicle I own. I highly recommend them.Just FYI, you can also get a lot of great car related info on YouTube. 1AAUTO has several Dakota/Durango vids, Eric The Car Guy is great and there are many others.

John Mackay, as presented in the Bonanza King, is certainly a fascinating story of immigrant rags-to-riches in the wild West and a refreshingly honorable, though human, role model for hard work, personal conduct, and leadership. But it is Greg Crouch's entertaining and easy-reading authorship that make this book truly one of the best biographies I've ever read. Crouch has distilled what was obviously a vast body of research on the subject into both a great story of John Mackay's life and an accessible education on topics like mining practices and corporate governance of the 19th century. From the newspaper reports of the time, Crouch has pulled plum witticisms and sprinkled them throughout each chapter, which add a wry grin at every turn and keep the whole thing feeling like a rollicking good tale rather than a pedantic history. Vignettes of other historically notable characters and events of the region and nation during the period are woven into the telling of Mackay's incredible rise, adding both entertainment and perspective. The ethnic/racial/gender/environmental injustices of the day are not glossed over, but neither are they used for story-distracting sermonizing from our two-century-removed vantage point. The only other mining-themed book I know of that is written as well is Wallace Stegner's fictional Angle of Repose, but Bonanza King has the advantages of being both factual and more uplifting! Stegner himself once said that "hard writing makes easy reading", so thanks to Greg Crouch for doing all the arduous word-mining, panning, and amalgamating that brought forth such a pure nugget of enjoyment.

I bought this book looking for an objective biography on Jack Ma. Instead, this book is nothing but page after page of the author on his knees, praising Jack Ma as a God among men. I couldn't get more than 3 chapters through it, and am now looking for an alternative biography.

After reading this book, I cut Jack 's picture and glued to my office calendar. We have mostly high tech people make big in the bay area, Jack is using his people skill to beat the tech entrepreneurs, he took away the excuses from literature major seem to not disfavored in our tech oriented economy..

An interesting read for a non-techie. Jack Mah's perseverance in trying various enterprises in China without the benefit of the internet is well described.The description of the volatily of the .com start- ups was hair-raising for the uninitiated. The convergence of sheer luck, keeping your powder dry and recognition of opportunities in addition to hard work made Jack so successful. He proved that western companies have a lot to learn about the Chinese business climate.Written in a way that was understandable for for the low-tech reader.

An absorbing, well-written tome about the history of Alibaba (China's Amazon) and the world of e-commerce/finance in China today. Topics covered include background on the life and education of Alibaba's most famous co-founder, Jack Ma, and how he began as an entrepreneur. The author actually interviewed Mr. Ma and his colleagues for this book.

I wanted to learn more about Alibaba, and this gave great insight. It was an enjoyable listen, all the way through. I am much more impressed with the integrity of the company now that I have been through this book.

I started my journey 12 years ago in China when I landed in Hangzhou and remained their for 2 years before moving onto Shanghai, where I am now basedI took tour groups to Alibaba HQ from almost the first year and heard all the great stories. For me, this book is important as it helps me tie those great stories together and reconfirms once and for all what a visionary Jack Ma is.

Duncan Clark presents a readable and often gripping account of the rise of Alibaba, one of China's iconic firms and an aspiring global giant. It illuminates all the contradictions and opportunities of the new China, from tensions between government ministries and firms like Alibaba which are pushing into areas such as finance and media once dominated by government, to the fierce competition between e-commerce and media giants within China that will help shape the country's future and its further engagement with the world. Should be required reading for anyone interested in understanding China and its global trajectory.....

Was an okay read that was interesting at times, but not a real page turner for me. I was intrigued on how Jack went about growing Alibaba, but there seemed be a lot going on at one time and it seemed be hard to read at times.
