Unless you are interested in reading almost 500 pages of restaurant and hotel reviews, stay away from the Michelin Guide for Hong Kong. The Eyewitness book is excellent. The only criticism I have is that the print could have been larger, but then again this would probably have made to book too bulky to carry around. This book covers almost everything from arriving in Hong Kong to departing Hong Kong. There are about 20 pages of Do's and Dont's which I think are very important. The book has numerous suggestions for day trips, weekend trips, or longer stays. I love it. The book has recommendations on how to tour the city by bus, auto, and or walking. There are numerous tips on how to visit museums, temples, markets, hospitals, dentists, etc.

My family and I are going to Hongkong next month and DK Top 10 Hong Kong (EYEWITNESS TOP 10 TRAVEL GUIDE) is just perfect for our 4D/3N stay.PROS:It has "top 10" lists segregated per area or per interest.It has colored photos and maps which are great if you have small kids.It fits a small lady's bag; small enough for small kids to carry.CONS:Not much history/ description about Hongkong or about the sights/ activities in Hongkong.Doesn't give much transportation/ moving-around details (how to reach this place from this place, etc).Not much help on the language/ translations to help you get around or to talk to people.I will pick up a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide book if we will be in Hongkong for more than 7 days.

Top 10, just as the title reads is exactly what you get with EyeWitness Travel. Following my purchase of Rough Guide and Monocle's Hong Kong, I would not purchase this guide. We have traveled extensively with the Top 10 series in the past, and each time I'm initially excited at the color photographs, removable maps and plethora of mainstream information they provide. Within a week I'm wondering why I purchased this guide after I've received the others. If you think about Top 10 - Best views of the skyline, Best hotels, Best places to shop, etc., you are very limited in how much information is provided. The Top 10 is a list put together by one printing source, not necessarily those on the ground or who have visited most recently. I often find TripAdvisor's top 10 and EyeWitness Travel Top 10 have very few similarities, and TripAdvisor has never steered us wrong. If you're in a bind for a travel guide, Top 10 is better than nothing. I would consider Rough Guide or Monocle before making this purchase, but that's our personal opinion.

Nice, compact volume with happy usage received from other volumes out of this series. However this HK volume seems a bit slim on relevant content and already outdated at the time it was released. Came across multiple listings that have gone or have moved. Irritating for a 2014 issue (if anything actually got changed since the last revision).

Central Banks On the Ropes? By Jack Rasmus is a tour de force of both the history of central banks and how they have degraded into weapons of mass financial destruction in the service of the 1%. Historically central banks have always been in the service of elites; first, to provide loans to Princes, Kings, and Emperors for their endless wars; more recently as the lender of last resort to financial institutions who are too big to fail and too big to jail. It is the latter function which has brought us to the financial abyss, an ocean of debt of over $20 trillion, broadcast world wide to the 1% who have used the electronically printed money as fast as they receive it for gambling in financial assets, off shoring jobs, buying stocks and bonds, and generated rivers of dividends to themselves. It is part of Jack Rasmus’s major achievement that he unravels the layers and layers of deceit by the central banks and the all too trusting media to show that the publicly announced goals of lender of last resort, maintaining inflation and money supply goals, are empty ideology. Which is why central banks are “on the ropes” and we face the financial abyss: the central banks cannot stop the flow of billions of electronically printed cash or raise interest rates significantly without plunging the markets into financial crisis. But it is the rivers of cash distributed world wide that has prompted bubble after financial bubble and will lead inevitably to the next crash.

This book does a better job of explaining how central banks work in any of the others I have read. Two mainstream books, Mohamed El-Erian's The Only Game in Town and Banking on the Future: The Fall and Rise of Central Banking appear to be limited by the obligate blindness that bankers must have to the fact that there is no correct way to do it. The central bank's goals are too elusive, the tools are too blunt and ineffective, the process is inherently political, and there are demographic and economic variables at play which are beyond the central bankers' ability to control. Losing Control: The Emerging Threats to Western Prosperity is another book that covers more or less the same ground, though I think Rasmus does it better and with less bias.Other books such as The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve and The Secrets of the Federal Reserve are conspiratorial. The Jekyll Island does a great job of describing how the Federal Reserve was established, but it ascribes to conspiracy that which can be better explained by mere self-interest. The bankers look out for themselves. The second book edges close to describing a Jewish conspiracy. As Kevin McDonald writes in The Culture of Critique: An Evolutionary Analysis of Jewish Involvement in Twentieth-Century Intellectual and Political Movements, the Jews have evolved to look out for one another, but that does not rise to the level of conspiracy. Murray Rothbard's 1962 What Has Government Done to Our Money? was a prescient vision of things to come.The Tyranny of the Federal Reserve, not widely read, is valuable in that it puts the operation of the central bank into a much broader perspective. It addresses an entire range of tyrannies: those of debt, usury, fractional reserve banking, gold, central banks, war, free trade, mass immigration, the media and public education. This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly is a survey of fiat money regimes going back eight centuries. They all fail, and all for the same reason: politicians cannot control themselves when it comes to printing money. James Rickards makes the same point well in The Death of Money: The Coming Collapse of the International Monetary System.Rasmus' book is the most valuable of the group, effectively enumerating and describing the tools, policy objectives and targets of the central banks, and evaluating their effectiveness in light of their own targets and their ability to manage their respective economies.Rasmus recommends a constitutional amendment to address the problem. The effect of the amendment would be to redress the abuse that he sees in the present system, whereby central banks worldwide are generating a great amount of liquidity most of which flows into financial instruments instead of the real economy, benefiting the rich and starving pensioners and savers.He recommends democratizing the governance of the Federal Reserve, taking it out of the self-serving hands of the bankers.This would be a good start. The book does not address larger issues, such as the coming demographic crisis as world populations age.This is as good a book as one will find describing the problems as they exist and how they came to be. One cannot fault the book for failing to recommend a complete solution. Nobody in the world has found one. For this reason prognosticators are increasingly forecasting a global collapse, a reset that will require something new to rise from the ashes. Only between the lines does Rasmus suggest that that's where things are headed.A five-star effort. The best single book I have read on the Federal Reserve and central banks. This wonderful and beautiful book, "Handmade Birdhouses and Feeders" in Paperback by Michele Mckee Orsini – published February 14, 2013, is now my favorite Birdhouse book. Ms. Orsini has laid out one of my best experiences in Birdhouse books and Natural Design art for those of us whose visual needs and attention, really find delightful. With complete explanations given in print of the author's mindset when approaching these birdhouses and feeders. She builds on exceptional Pictures of her work, with thorough explanation of how they are well thought out and constructed, what materials are used, detail and dimension and step by step given for building each of her ideas. If you would like to own one birdhouse building book, I would recommend this book. If you buy it other books may come up lacking and to be less than satisfying. So, go ahead and spoil yourself, buy this great birdhouse and feeder book and just ruin the others out there for you. I love it.

The book is full of interesting and unique designs of birdhouses and feeders, with full color pictures. The basic wood pattern is the same for most, but then you customize them so they look completely different. Good directions and doesn't require a master woodworker. Can't wait to make some of these!8/10/14 Update: I have now made 3 of the birdhouses. The directions were easy to follow and the birdhouses turned out great. I absolutely love this book. It is the BEST one of its kind that I have ever purchased and used. I wish the author would put out another book as I can't find any other book that compares. Highly, highly recommend!!!

A lot of fun plans. Simple to build. Great details anyone can folliw along.Im planning on building a couple of birdhouses with my grandson in the woodshop.

This book contains some good ideas for birdhouse designs but take the dimensions on the cut lists with a grain of salt. Best to cut abd assemble the ends and sides, the measure for the rest of the parts.

If you are looking for guidance in creating an unusual birdhouse or feeder this is it. Photos are top quality. There is a section on basic construction.

Very well written and designed. Got plenty of ideas on how to modify the designs in the book. Easy to follow instructions to build a birdhouse included.

This book is amazing as are the gorgeous Birdhouses! I am fortunate enough to have acquired a couple of them! The book is artful and well documents the making of beautiful birdhouses, explaining what is necessary for different types of birds. Any lover of birds will like this book. It makes a beautiful book to keep out. The author is a real artist! LOVED IT!!!

Absolutely the most helpful guide on what the partner/spouse and addict should do that I have encountered. I read the whole book from start to finish in about 1.5 hours and plan to read it often. The author provides a clear perspective about what the partners experience during each of the stages from discovery to recovery and provides realistic expectations on what is or is not acceptable. I found this to be well thought out and well laid out.Most helpful to me was the empowering insight on the fact that most partners have more leverage than they realize and how to use it in a healthy way which helps propel the addict and betrayed partner towards healing. Included are very carefully laid details about which support options are appropriate and when. My initial reactions led us to seek a CSAT therapist who advised individual counseling initially which we agreed to because we both acknowledge that we have no idea what steps to take to move forward. The therapist recommended individual therapy, 12 step support groups along with a sponsor and several books. We were not so sure the individual therapy recommendation was the correct route initially however, after reading this book I completely understand now why it is necessary.The hardest part of this book was reading that there was something about me and also the relationship which drew the addict to me even though I did not deserve the betrayal or betrayals. After careful reflection in my 12 step process, I had to admit at least on my end there was some truth to that statement. I have my own abandonment and attachment issues which provided fertile ground for an addict to easily manipulate. I need to work on irregardless of whether the addict and I actually remain in a relationship. Of great value is also the way the author positions the reality that therapy will change both individuals for the better and that it is perfectly acceptable that the two individuals may not end up together as a couple at some point. I don't know why but I felt an incredible burden lifted off of my shoulders just from acknowledging that. I do believe this book may have just rejuvenated my hopes that we can actually make it whereas before I was not so sure I actually wanted to overcome this.Other topics covered that are invaluable is the fact that the whole process from crisis to recovery can take anywhere from three to five years, likely outcomes of what life with an addict might look like after recovery (very helpful) and a thorough understanding that the partner has to legitimately go through the stages of grief. I can't recommend this book enough and the one review which complained that this book was written from the perspective of a recovering addict is missing out on the invaluable insights that the author provided.

This important little volume alerted me to the seriousness of sexual compulsion/addiction. If you are just discovering that your partner may be a sex addict, you are most likely devastated, confused, feeling desperately alone, and lost in a fog of terrifying emotions. When I began to realize something was very wrong in my home, I had no idea where to turn. I started reading EVERYTHING I could get my hands on. Not even knowing how to Google what was was going on, I had a really hard time finding info. I found this on Amazon and my first reaction to the text was disbelief. "No, surely this woman can't be serious," I thought. I set the book aside and I continued my quest for information, having a hard time finding anything that wasn't heavily religious. I needed someone to SHOVE me in the right direction. A few days later, I stumbled upon a youtube video by this author, and I realized that she was delivering exactly what I needed - a painful, hard, and extremely necessary SHOVE in the form of cold, hard facts.

This book gave me strength, insight and hope i never knew i needed or had. Knowledge is power. This addiction is very misunderstood and this author does an extraordinary job explaining where responsibilities fall in terms of addiction and in terms of cheating.This book really is a great starter book for the person who knows nothing about sex addiction.Start here.Its a fast read, an easy read, and a very informative read with resources in the text.Thank you, this addiction gripped my husband long before i ever knew him and hid from me for a year, and for him for even longer I wont walk out on him, it hasn’t been easy for the last 6 years and the next 5-6 wont be either but a least ill know what to expect now thanks to this book.

Great help for the partner who wonders how she got here. Yes, we too apparently have intimacy disorders that allowed us to accept the distancing a sex addict needs to enjoy his habit. I have read it twice and it just makes me feel better. Another helpful book for porn is Love You, Hate the Porn by Chamberlain. There is hope and help, but both partners need to work on healing.

This book gave insightful information without excess words. I had questions and this book had the answers . I had several "AHA!" moments while I read this book. As a prime member I was able to get this book for zero money, others pay $0.99, I think. This book is worth every penny and more of 99 cents. I highly recommend this book.

Really gives an inside perspective of the addicts thought process. Not trying to get back together and almost skipped those chapters but glad i read them as every chapter gave insight on the mindset, reason the have that mindset and even the thought process of the spouse.

I have lived with this problem for 25 years. All that time the sexaholic is given counseling, behavior modification, whatever he needed. The spouse or partner is given nothing. This book explained what I needed to know.

I love this book. It tells it like it is - the truth about living with a sex addict. I related to SO much of it. It is clear, brief, and eminently practical. Can't recommend this book highly enough.

.... this reconsideration with the design treatment of Katy Homans adds her color and snap to what I consider an extended formal exercise by Friedlander. Funny to say, given the subject matter but I see much greater involvement and depth in his urban landscape and his treatment of fauna, in the natural environment and that cultivated. Yet, it is Friedlander and even with some debt to Brandt and Sheeler (surprisingly), the book is beautiful.

"Nudes" by Friedlander was first published 2o years ago--this new expanded edition contains most if not all of the original pictures, plus a few more.As a healthy hetrosexual male, I've given up on trying to justify why I find naked women attractive, or why I find myself unable to look away from images of them, so I usually try to avoid looking at them. But these pictures are something more--female bodies, unretouched, glorious in their curves and blemishes. The women seem to be comfortable in front of the camera, like cats in the sun. While there isn't a whole lot of detail about how these pictures were made, in at least one picture, the reflection of another woman shows, indicating that even though the photographs were made in the homes of the young women, the sessions were, it appears, very much under controlled conditions. Worth remembering is Friedlander's interest in Bellocq, who photographed prostitutes in New Orleans a century ago--the women in these pictures are not accused of having loose morals--to the contrary, they appear very much in control of their own bodies, their own selves. Their bodies, lovely in their youth, are full of mystery. Pure Friedlander.

Beautiful collection of B/W photos of female models, up close and personal. Few look at the camera. Engaging. Includes some with sun tan lines which are delightful, all natural.
