I really like iBatis, and am grateful to Begin for writing it. I've used it for several years, and recommend it. But I hate this book.The author quotes himself as having said that iBatis would be a failure if there had to be a book written about it. The problem is, although he changed his mind about writing the book, he never changed his mind about there being no need for a book.The implicit narrative thread running throughout this book is, "iBatis is so simple, so self-evident, you don't need a book", and so, instead of writing a tutorial/reference book, he has written a pastiche of anecdotes about how to implement his sample project.Here's the problem: instead of breaking out a section, for example, on how to handle stored procedures that would start with an overview, then go through get object, get list, update, insert, execute, how to deal with custom data types, how to get your result as a return from the procedure call as opposed to putting it into an OUT or INOUT parameter; instead of doing that, along the way to other things, he shows an embedded example of how to use a stored proc in a particular case.I can see that the major problem he had to solve in writing this book was how he was going to manage to fill enough pages for it to be a book rather than an article. He rambles on, talking *about* topics rather than *in* topics, skimming along, rather than digging in.I recommend the book simply because it's the only one out there, but I think you'll find that it's fine if all you want to do is learn *about* iBatis, but that if you have specific questions on how to implement certain things, or solve very real problems, you'll wind up frustrated and disappointed.

I found it easier to make things running using free manuals available from same authors. Something is wrong with the way information presented. Didn't feel bad about buying the book just because I paid $5 for new book at amazon

Very well written and introduces reader to the concept of sql mapping and iBatis DAO. Clear explanations and simple to the point language makes it a enjoyable learning resource.Highly recommended. Also see developer-guide and tutorial from Ibatis site directly for additional references.A second edition covering Ibator and new features would be nice.

As Authors mentioned and I totally agree, IBATIS is relatively small framework that does what it says it does very well, I have used it before and the only reason I bought this book was to have a reference guide. and it does exactly that very very well, IBATIS is not complicated concept it does not need 800 pages, this book is something One can look over and over again for techniques and ways to use for example dynamic SQL appenders etcno more digging through Google or through, not so clear, official IBATIS reference guide.

Ideally you shouldn't but the information is there if need be.CONS=====> Organization problems. For example, when you are first learning about the 'select' tag, you are just shown the basics (and I mean really basic) along with the basics for delete, update, and insert. A few chapters later you get to learn the advanced stuff. I'd prefer a chapter just on 'select' and Result Maps including some examples of a object graph (complex objects). Then another chapter on inserts and parameterMaps... You get the idea. This would greatly help in learning process in my opinion.=> The book does need a second edition to cover some of the changes done to iBATIS 2. But don't look for that anytime soon as iBATIS 3 is in beta and I think all their energy will go to that en devour.=> Not enough coverage on iBATIS with Spring. I think the popularity of Spring warrants a full example of integrating iBATIS with Spring.FINAL THOUGHTS==============iBATIS reminds me of technology crafted by those who learned from all the wrong ways of doing things to come together with a well-though out technology that puts the pleasure back into the persistence/DOA layer. Rarely are books written by the authors of the technology written in a clear manner -- but this book is an exception as I enjoy these author's clarity. Yes, and I agree with other reviewers that there should be more examples in this book. However despite my minor complaints, this book (and iBATIS) has been very helpful to me. I recommend the book for those using iBATIS 2. If you are going with iBATIS 3, this book may not be of much value other than for the philosophy sections. In that case, you might as well read those first 1-2 chapters in the book store and save yourself some money.

I now have a much better insight into iBatis because the authors provided both background design and detailed information about the product. It was much better than the documentation I found via the web (there's lots to be said for technical and editorial review of a book).The setup and code examples are excellent. I also like the writing style and structure of the book. Clear and logical.However, I would like an expanded section on using the Spring DAO with iBatis, as this is now the recommended approach over the iBatis DAO.Although I was already using iBatis, this book is a welcome addition to my library.

My toddler is obsessed with birds and thought this would be a fun way to tie learning colors together. Very simple yet beautiful pictures of birds we see in our backyard (well, no pink flamingoes hanging out on our backyard feeder in Virginia!). We often keep the book by the door, look out to see what birds are there and then reference his book for color and name because several are a match to what we see! I want the puzzle they show on the very last page though!!!!

I absolutely love this book! It is so awesome that it has native (US) birds, vibrant and engaging illustrations, and highlights native plants (names listed on back cover). My 10 month old really enjoys reading this with us, and he grabs this book to look through on his own over all our other books. What a great way to help inspire a love of nature! I can't say enough about this book.

My new favorite book to give toddlers. You can teach colors and bird names so easily. Kids clearly see a blue jay differently than they see a cardinal so why teach them "birdie?" This book is attractive and designed with little kids in mind.

My son loves birds so this is a fun way to introduce colors to him as well. It’s a short book with only color words and two bird names on each page so when we read it I also point out other things in the room that are the same color, otherwise it goes very quickly. It’s one of his favorites.

This book is mostly a barrage of information on doing it wrong, rather than walking you through the process of retraining with positive reinforcement. Hey, alternative health community: the negativity bias may be a great way to push product, but it brings little positive change. For a more accessible resource on the Buteyko method, try ‘How To Breathe: The Symptoms if You Get it Wrong, and How to Fix It’ by Sally Gething. I was initially put off by the title, but in one brief and well-organized chapter Gething accomplishes what McKeown took half a book to get out in a disorganized way. Great self-promotion from McKeown, I honestly felt after reading this book that I would need to buy all of his products and pool the few relevant pieces of information from each to see improvement. The information in this book is mind-blowing. I have embarked on a limited practice of these principles and at my age of 69 years I am experiencing significant benefits.For anyone who has young asthmatic children this is vital information. It is very important to apply these principles and exercises. There can be absolutely no harm in them and if they do work it should be criminal negligence to ignore them.I wish I could get this out to all the "they says" in the world so that this silly sickness can be reduced and perhaps eliminated for ever.

This is a great book for me because it taught me a way to breathe that was different than anything I had been taught or had practiced before. The reduced breathing techniques gave me a sense of relaxation and ease that was great. It actually felt like I was breathing correctly for the first time in a long time. Like breathing actually filled me up with oxygen to optimum levels. The tape on the mouth at night was great. After a day of using the practices I put the tape on at night and the next morning woke up and popped out of bed full of energy and feeling totally refreshed. It was amazing really. I don't recommend putting the tape on without doing the exercises during the day first, because your body wont know what it is doing and it will just be really uncomfortable.Now, the exercises can be quite grueling. Especially to come home after a day work and to expect to put yourself in the sometimes intensely uncomfortable position of exercising while holding your breath, or holding your breath while you nod your head up and down for as long as you can, and having the wherewithal to stick a piece of tape over your mouth before you go to sleep. It can be quite daunting! It is worth it, but it can be a lot. For an asthmatic they might have the drive because they are dealing with there breathing all of the time. Everyone is different, for some people they might have the will power to do it like a piece of cake. Other people might struggle more with it. Especially if you have depression I wouldn't recommend doing these exercises, Patrick says the same. For me it is quite hard to do it regularly. I have seen the benefits, and they are great, But it is still too challenging to do it on a consistent basis. I would probably benefit from a coach or something.I still recommend the book though. So that you can at least get a taste of the benefits this interesting breathing philosophy has to offer. And maybe you'll do better than me and make the exercises a regular part of your lifestyle.

This is an extremely interesting book which outlines the techniques developed by Konstantin Buteyko, a Russian doctor, who uncovered the link between breathing volume and a number of conditions. This book primarily targets those people who suffer from asthma; however,these techniques can be used for other respiratory complaints including COPD, colds, nasal congetion, sleep apnoea, other chronic illnesses as well as the overall health of the body. It is ironic that the greater one's air intake the less oxygen delivered and the calmer and quieter the breath, the more the blood vessels and airways are open. It is interesting that these techniques discussed are very similar to those of some yoga traditions. This is thoroughly discussed in Artour Rakhimov's book "Yoga Benefits are in Breathing Less". It should be noted Artour Rakhimov also authored a book entitled "How to use the Frolov Breathing Device" which adopts the overall theory of Buteyko but is alleged to be a far more effective method of just using the Buteyko Breathing Exercises. However, like so many "how to books", the success of the Buteyko exercises depends on the individual and the overall practice of these techniques.

Book is repetitive, but I think the author is trying to emphasize the points he is trying to make. He addresses the symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and how to deal with them. My doctor recommended the book to me. Well worth the read.

A very important book for everyone to read - not just those with Asthma or other respiratory illnesses (although it is essential reading for them). Patrick Mckeown has more than done his homework regarding the positive real life effects of incorporating the Buteyko Breathing Method into ones life. I highly recommend this book and any other information you can get your hands on by this author. Thanks Patrick for a job extremely well done.
