I loved Boy Princess by this manhwa artist (can I just say right now that I'd LOVE a story about Shahi and Derek and/or Shahi and Derek's son??? Pretty please? <3 ) so I was super excited to see this new series being published (especially since her other series, Devil's Bride, had only one volume published before Tokyopop shut down in North America (insert super sad face). Volume 1 of Sweet Blood does a great job at providing just enough background information to peak our interests without overstimulating us. After basically being abandoned by his parents as they explore yet another business venture (all their previous ones have failed), Sooho is living just to survive. Very soon into this volume we find out he's being visited by a nightly guest who turns out to be the vampire (whose name I don't think is mentioned) and not long after that he gives consent (under duress) to leave his world and live with the vampire on some distant, probably magical, island. We learn that the vampire needs a constant food source, but can only drink blood that suits his tastes, and Sooho is the latest in his line of victims. An interesting twist, and something I think is unique in boys love, is that the vampire (the seme) does not know Sooho (the uke) is a man. In fact, it is revealed that something happened to the vampire in his past that has made him strongly "homophobic," to use the author's words, and if Sooho's true sex is discovered, his life may be at stake. Despite this, he makes a deal with the vampire's dragon servant, Ryuka (who is so cute and adorable--I love him!), to dress as a woman and disguise his masculinity and continue giving blood to the vampire, in exchange for rare jewels. Finally, we learn that the vampire is a very powerful king over several islands and is currently not faring well in a war among the nations. The novel ends with a "surprising" revelation to the vampire, and leaves me anticipating volume 2.As in her Boy Princess series, Seyoung Kim focuses on developing a complex and dynamic plot. There are no sex scenes in this volume, but the feeding scenes are very pleasing. I'm very interested in learning more about the vampire's past and seeing how his relationship with Sooho will develop. As you can see from the cover, and if you've read other works by this artist, her artwork is very distinct and unique; her lines are bold and her proportions aren't exactly anatomically perfect, but I like it and I think it just makes her work stand out even more. I do think the characters in this series look similar to those in Boy Princess (the vampire just screams prince Jed and at times Sooho acts very much like Nicole), but again I love and don't mind it. I think fans of this artist will enjoy this series, and if you're looking for something different in the yaoi genre this should be a series to consider, especially if you value a strong plot punctuated by scenes of sexiness; this is definitely not a smut-driven artist. Highly recommend.

It focuses on the two leads Sooho, a financially poor but optimistic and practical student with irresponsible parents, and the vampire [from rereading the manga again, his name was never mentioned aside being referred to as “master” by his servants] with a specific taste of blood who’s taken a liking to Sooho’s blood however is unaware [until later on] that he’s a boy. To the side you also have Kyungmin, Sooho’s elite school friend who’s hinted to have feelings for Sohoo, and “the snake,” a dragon under the employ of the vampire who functions as a bulter/caretaker for Sohoo while on the vampire's island.The first volume reveals Sohoo’s daily living prior to being kidnapped and the aftermath of living on the vampire’s secluded island along with some information about the vampire. There are implications that a love triangle develops with Kyungmin -> Sooho <- the vampire probably at a later volume since it never really gets to the point where any of the three characters admits they have romantic interest towards each other within the volume: (spoiler) Sooho oblivious to love, Kyungmin the silent type and the vampire avoids falling in love due to the possibility that the taste of blood changing in the person [in this case Sooho]. I found all the characters to be likeable.The art is beautiful and switches up according to the mood of the characters. Overall I would recommend it for a quick read. I liked it for the most part. The plot isn’t necessarily deep and mostly fluffy, light hearted romantic comedish [at least for the first volume] type of story line.

Condition of the book was as described. Shipping was quick enough. As for the book itself it's the first manga I've picked up in over ten years. I recently decided on a whim to begin reading manga again and ordered several, Sweet Blood being one. I feel like the set up was more Americanized in that the book doesn't read backwards. Pages are rather thin so turn gently. At times I had to really pry at the pages to see all of the panels and words because it was bound so closely. Maybe my book was just a fluke but I didn't like that some of the art and story was almost swallowed up. Definitely a quick read. I finished in under an hour despite being rusty. For the most part I feel like a beginner could easily follow the panels accordingly. Description of the plot is accurate so I won't go into plot details as not to spoil anything, but I did feel like the story was weak and rushed. I wish a little more time had been allowed for the reader to get familiar with the protagonist and understand his plight better. If you're looking for a quick read then this may be for you. If you like to build a relationship with the character you may find yourself a little disappointed. I consider this a very mild work. Nothing steamy to it so if you want passion you may be dissatisfied. I did order the other volumes and my interest is peaked just enough to read them but I don't have high expectations. At this point I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

He is a Professor and former Chair of the Production Department of the USC School of Cinema/Television. He is also a journalist and author of five award-winning children's novels. Deborah Oppenheimer is the president of Mohawk Productions, a production company at Warner Bros. I liked how this was written by giving each narrative pieces of a chapter, so that you saw all their stories progressing together, rather than reading each survivors narrative in full one at a time. I think many people don't see these children as "survivors" because they didn't suffer the way those who lived in concentration camps did. However, to be an orphan, learning a new way of life, a new language, and all without your parent, is definitely compelling and worth telling.

I've read several books on the topic of the Kinder Transport. This really showed how one's life touch the lives of tens of thousands. The two men who spearheaded the project of this transport of 60,000 + children, were 25 and 32 years old. They wouldn't take no for an answer. One even gave up his freedom to make sure as many children as possible were able to leave the war-torn country. It's a remarkable chapter in history, and this book was enjoyed.

this book was an assigned reading at my daughter's school, and she found it so interesting and such a great True story that she had to own it.

You should read the book with the same title that served as a source for this movie.Both recall the experiences of several (distant) relatives and friends. They have also recommended this movie as very worthwhile viewing matter! But it is not easy watching and may leave a viewer very upset what these folks suffered after their arrival in the UK., They were "farmed out" to various homes. Some were treated quite well; others - girls- had to act as maids and governesses for the family's children. Later on, some of them went to USA to start new lives again. But on the whole the very lives of these youngster were saved from the Holocaust. By the way, a number of these youngsters were also "weaned away" from their Jewish religion because of their new family's religious practices.Be sure to see this movie to learn some history that has remained almost completely hidden and neglectedMy personal experiences include the departure of some of these children to the UK, as well as to Palestine (now Israel). These youngsters were my own age! Many of them never saw their parents again.So therefore this represents a very special way to re-tell some my own eperiences , but seen with diferent eyes.

A friend mentioned Kindertransport to me and I did a search in Amazon and this book was listed. Seller's description was accurate and received very quickly. Book was great reading for anyone interested in history or WWII.

This book is based on the memories of several people who were involved in the Kindertransport -- children, organizers, and foster parents. It well-written and easy to read. Also, should one desire, one can follow one individual all the way through the process or read all the accounts based on time.

It is about nursing in Britain rather than the U.S. but nursing is a universal profession so that does not detract from the book, however, it does depict a very different health care system than in the United States. As a nurse myself, I felt instantly comfortable with the scenarios and descriptions provided. This book was a great reminder that what we do matters on many different levels, and sometimes the greatest kindnesses are received from the most unlikely places. In the end, we all need kindness.

This account of a nurse's life in the UK was is disappointment. It lacked the drama of a true memoir and was filled with medical detail that was not narratively needed. It needed a good editor!

Very much enjoyed the view of nursing in the British national health system. She demonstrates good nursing care and the challenges in achieving it. Also shows the variety of nursing jobs available as a nurse--either in the UK or the US.

This is another excellent publication by National Geogtraphic. It is full of interesting and fun facts that children and adults love. This is a very educational book that helps children and adults learn about intersting and historical people complete with 500 incredible photos. It also contains games, puzzles, homework help and answers to all of these as well! It begins with a "Stump Your Parent" page that engages young people and makes it a group reading exercise that is interesting and educational for all ages. This little book encourages children of all levels. Younger children love the pictures and the stories that go with them and older children become interested enough to want to search the internet for more information! I recommend this book to all parents and teachers who are willing to spend 10 minutes a day on a topic in this almanac starting with President Obama as the first African American President in the section labeled "Your World 2010," and including other sections that include: Awsome adventures, Amazing Animals, Culture COnnection, Geography Rocks, Going Green, History Happens, Wonders of Nature, and Super Science. National Geographic Kids Almanac 2010

Purchased this for my niece. She reads all these almanacs cover to cover, over and over again. These are great ideas for christmas or birthdays - hours of fun for the kids in your life.

This tome is packed with text. My 6 year old has been reading it for weeks and she is only a third of the way through. It is well worth the price. I wish they gave it a sturdier cover - it's too magaziney and flimsy and will not last until she finishes reading it.Hey, it's much, much better than watching TV.

These are the best! My 8 year old son loves the almanacs! There are so many times that we are going somewhere and he starts telling me some random fact and I ask where he gets it and it's always "my almanacs!"

This would really be a 4.5 star review if Amazon allowed half stars.It's one of those little known facts about America's most famous residence: There have really been two White Houses; the one designed by James Hoban and built between 1792 and 1800, and the one designed by President Truman (along with White House Architect Lorenzo Winslow and the Commission on the Renovation of the Executive Mansion) that was built by John McShain between 1949 and 1952. The two structures really only share a general layout and the same four outer walls.This bit of historical trivia has always fascinated me, the construction of a modern building within a centuries-old facade, and I had been eager for a while to learn more about it.Robert Klara weaves his exhaustive research into a peppy narrative that moves along at brisk, engaging pace. He does a terrific job of exploring the scope of the problem and is quite successful at capturing the distinct voices and personalities of the various players involved in solving it. In addition to learning a lot about the White House, I learned a lot about Truman the president and Truman the man. Klara is not awestruck by his subject matter, and his book is as attuned to flaws and shortcomings as it is to triumphs. His citations are staggeringly comprehensive, and provide a great road map for the reader that wants to dig even deeper into any given aspect of the particular historic project.I only have two real complaints: 1) Sometimes, in his attempts to spice up the storytelling of what could have easily been a dry treatise, he's a bit too bold about putting himself into the heads of the participants, declaratively presenting private thoughts that can only be assumptions based on educated conclusions. He also dwells overlong at times on irrelevant bits of color, particularly Lorenzo Winslow's fascination with séances and the occult. 2) The book only includes sixteen pages of photographs in a glossy insert near the center. The photos that we do get are excellent, but the book would have benefited from even more of Abbie Rowe's incredible black and white photography, scattered throughout in context within the narrative.

I'll be forever grateful that I found this book. The White House is one of the dearest and most precious places in the country, YET, most Americans know so very little about it. Robert Klara will SHOCK you while entertaining you, as he brilliantly lets you "live" in the White House with Harry Truman while Truman has to come to grips with a little known catastrophic secret about the White House; a secret that changed the President's house forever. If you like American History (or even if you don't.... yet) this book is a must read. You will know more about the White House than almost every other American. Did you know that you can buy 225 year old, historic pieces of the White House? Either did I.

I'd seen the author interviewed on Book TV and decided to order a copy right then and there. It turned out to be one of the best gifts I'd ever given myself. I had known that Truman had spent much of his presidency in Blair House but I never understood why. Then, when Robert Klara opens the book by describing how Truman was taking a bath and almost ended up falling through the ceiling while a group of DAR ladies were sipping tea in the Blue Room below (because the physical structure of the White House was so catastrophically weak), I laughed my sides off at the image. And that was just the beginning! It's a wonderful read all the way through as he describes all the prima donna specialists involved in the reconstruction, many of whom didn't get along with each other, and makes a little known story an absolute gem to read. It almost reads like a novel, but as the old saying goes, "You can't make this stuff up!"

Lots of little details and characters make this book more than just a dull book on an aspect of American history: stories about Abbe Rowe, the crippled Interior Department line gang worker who sent First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt a photograph. The First Lady asked him to come to the White House as a photographer and he documented the entire restoration process with great care. The mystery of a hidden bomb shelter being built in the basement--bomb shelters were big about 1950. Many others, that make this book worth the reader’s time.

This is a FANTASTIC book for the money. A lot of different, beautifully arranged piano pieces that will satisfy piano students asking for various Star Wars tunes. I would call this early intermediate instead of easy. Students should be in level 3A or B in the Faber series to get through this with a teacher. Probably level 4 Faber to tackle it on their own.Note that these are "easy" arrangements, not necessarily in their original keys, so if you go from listening to a recording to playing a piece from this book it will sound a little different!

Star Wars -- A Musical Journey (Easy Piano Sheet music)I begin to say amazon shipped the book very fast and my son was very excited about this book. However, I want to let people know that 8 amazon reviews are for two books, one is the book I purchased- Star Wars -- A Musical Journey (Easy Piano), and this book is easier, appropriate for level 2-3 learners, the other book is Star Wars - A Musical Journey Episodes I-VI - Piano Solos, which is much more difficult to play. Hope amazon will correct it soon.

I am a piano teacher and a couple of my younger boy students are real Star Wars buffs. Giving them music to work on that they really love works wonders with practice habits, so I'm really glad I found this collection of easy piano arrangements. Dan Coates' arrangements are reliably well-done with helpful fingerings and a good sound. I'm very pleased with the book.

Dan Coates has come up with some great arrangements of the orchestral music from these movies, each one manages to capture all the themes, motifs and progressions even though reduced down to a single piano part.My only criticism is that some of the fingering is a little bizarre, I had changed a lot of it for my students as I just cannot see where he is coming from with some of his choices!But overall a great score, one which many of my students love.

Delighted both a 10 year-old budding pianist and his more accomplished father. It apparently is quite awesome that the book includes "Duel of the Fates." Really pleased with myself for finding this sheet music. Great, simple gift for a musical family.

Buy this you must. (At least, that's what my kids said.)

Good arrangements and selection, except the keys appear to have been transposed from the originals in some cases -- it would be better the music in the original keys whenever possible.

I bought this for my daughter who was starting her fourth year in piano. She was able to play some things relatively easily, but there is enough content that is challenging that she takes it to her piano lessons and can learn and grow from it. She enjoys being able to play the familiar Star Wars tunes, and it helps to keep her motivated and practicing, for the most part. I don't reccommend this book for less than 3 years experience as it could be discouragingly difficult.
