I did this study on my own, and it was a good introduction to the book of Job. I liked how they organized it topically, since that did make the various arguments and speeches much easier to grasp. The one thing that frustrated me about this study was the lack of commentary or explanation; it is truly a study that guides you in reading the book and then asks questions about comprehension...but Job being a hard book (written in Hebrew poetic form, thousands of years old), as well as a hard topic (suffering), sometimes I felt lost as to the proper interpretation of the passages read. Still, it was a VERY valuable study and led to a great deal of spiritual growth on my part.Some tips for anyone considering this study:-If you do it on your own, read the group section at the end of each chapter. There are some insights here that can help when praying for understanding of the book.-Get a good commentary on Job to go along with the study. I finally purchased Ray Stedman's "Let God Be God" (recommended at the back of this study guide), and I wish I'd had it all along! There are several commentaries this study guide recommends as accompaniments; spend the extra few dollars and get one.-Do this study. It's an excellent way to start understanding the theology of suffering, from an oft-overlooked and misrepresented book.
I had never considered studying Job, not having a sufficient background in ancient poetry. But this text does a very good job of guiding our study, working around that shortcoming.
Will be using this as my guide for my Bible Study classes.
not fond of the lay out. I know what they are doing because to review each speech get kind of repetitious, but for our group, this format didn't work well.
