I'm a huge fan of this author and series. Each book is so packed with juicy historical details that I'm pretty much convinced these characters existed in history. (Yes, I'm aware they didn't but fantasy and historical romance is my jam). Even more than that, the plot thickens in a well thought out manner and the characters' personal journeys and growth were so intensely satisfying to watch play out.The prologue and epilogue of each book are such an interesting and unique start and end to every book in a way I haven't seen before - with a current character in our timeline wondering about this story along with us. Kudos for the unique storytelling on all levels.I'm left again a full heart and eagerly wondering how in the world this series will resolve in the fourth and final installment. While I realize this story has a poor review due to typos, the author uploaded a corrected version and it isn't something for new readers to be concerned with. Five stars for unique characters and storytelling and for really giving me historical insight into some fascinating world history.
I have patiently waited for this gem of a story and it was well worth the wait. There was a problem with editing and the author was very quick to fix the problem, which is something that I appreciate. Now I can begin the series over again while I patiently wait for book four! I highly recommend this book, and the series, one of my all time favorites. I am also going to buy the paperback to go with my collection, I don't buy a lot of hard copies but this one is worth it.
Well worth the very long wait for Book 3 in the series. I'm hopeful the wait for the final book isn't as long.
How I love this book. Let me count the ways!1. The characters are awesome. Enemies to lovers. A master in love with his slave. A slave in love with his master. Such a great set up.2. The writing and attention to glorious detail (not boring, ever!) is superb. You can tell how carefully crafted the writing is while it still reads smoothly and never trips the mind.3. What an awesome plot and cast of characters. I love them all, even the horses!4. This book has such beautiful lovemaking scenes, as well as some *gasp* erotica thrown in for good measure. All well done!5. Tension and all the feels are present and accounted for.Notes: Gaius seemed somewhat hard-hearted and coldly randy when I met him in the first book. It is so lovely to see that falling in love with his slave has softened him, but not to his detriment. No, it's made him more formidable because now he has a secret and a lover to protect. He has turned into the most amazing character whose slave owns his heart.Alle is a strong-willed slave. He does not whimper or whine. He has a lot to contend with, and his mind becomes torn, but love wins out for him. It is wonderful to watch his character grow stronger with each book.Everything about this book puts it into a 5 star ranking for me.Oh, and for those who might have bought it early and noticed typos, those have all been fixed by the author now, so you can ignore reviews about that. This is a five star piece of perfection!
This book came three years after a book 2. That’s plenty of time to edit out extraneous words and make sure the author didn’t use the word ‘that’ when she should’ve used ‘those.’ There were, at least, a dozen missing words and an equal number of instances of various other editing mistakes. I spent approximately 1/3 of my time reading this book, going back and trying to make the sentences make sense. It was completely distracting from an, otherwise, interesting story that I was truly looking forward to reading. It was annoying and unprofessional— unworthy of the characters. If the story had not been so strong, I would’ve given it two stars.
